Back to Basics
Drawing is the simplest way of establishing a picture vocabulary. Making marks on the paper has infinite possibilities and it is these marks that make up the alphabet of which a drawing is constructed. Essential to drawing is the ability to look and engage with the subject matter and to explore the world visually through mark making. This 6 week course will focus on drawing the basics: texture, form, light, gesture and space. Breaking down each subject into a series of short drawing exercises designed to help you to intuitively develop your mark making and drawing ability whilst also challenging your understanding of what drawing isThe course will also give the opportunity to work with a wide range of drawing materials from graphite, charcoal and inks. Each material possesses unique qualities that affect its mark making capabilities. Lines are infinitely variable, and each instance of their use is unique and particular to the individual who made them. They are auto-graphic and their uniqueness is expressed most clearly in our signature and handwriting.’ Jack SouthernJoin us and explore your own unique and personal language of mark making.
