Plaster + Ink + Light = Installation

We drew the Experimental Drawing and Printing course to a close in this final Monday session in an exciting combined process-led workshop that culminated in a group-made installation of animated mono prints and relief casted plaster sculptures. Split into two stages, the students worked individually in two groups to work with plaster and with printing. In stage one, the students built clay molds into which objects were pressed and embedded and after considering composition and depth, plaster was mixed and poured. Thursday evening 'Life Printing' we used the concept of negative shape to create collographs, When printed the figure appeared as if by magic. Will definitely be repeating this technique in 'Life into the Figure' next term

Model Days for Studio Practice

Friday is 'Studio Practice' day and is the opportunity for artists to develop their own personal projects with input from tutors and fellow artists in the studio. The last couple of terms we've introduced a model day once a term and students have the opportunity to work from the clothed model with again their own personal agenda. Contemporary Realistic Drawing Weeks 4 & 5 For the last 2 weeks of the term, we were consolidating all the mark making techniques learnt over the last month into one finished drawing. We considered the role of photography for the contemporary artist, and compared contemporary ways of drawing with the masters before us. Using the drafting technique of grids and measuring, and source imagery, we planned out our drawings, with particular attention to forming an interesting composition. Collect. Colate. Collide

Contemporary Collage class finishing up their ‘collide’ project, bringing together two sets of contrasting imagery and playing with humour, scale and surrealist imagery within their compositions. Fantastic results and a lot of fun! Rachel Mcbrinn will be running another Contemporary Collage class after the Easter break on Tuesday evening.
