Painting & Printmaking
Abstraction through Process Tutor: Ginny Elston
29 July– 1 August 10 am - 4 pm A process-based week that explores ways of using printmaking and painting as tools for abstracting images found in local landscapes. The week presents an opportunity for students to find the meeting points between painting and printmaking, and to see how one process informs the other. Throughout the week, students will gain experience of how working with simple processes of repetition can produce abstract results. The course begins with gathering source material from the surrounding environment, drawing inspiration from the textures, shapes, and forms of the local landscape. These observations are then developed into acrylic paintings, which serve as a foundation for further exploration through printmaking. The week focuses on how these complementary approaches can unlock new perspectives on abstraction. As the course progresses, students will refine their work, experimenting with both mediums while honing their ideas. Whether creating bold final paintings, developing prints, or integrating both processes, students will leave with a deeper understanding of abstraction and the creative potential of painting and printmaking.
