It’s all come together nicely
Contemporary Realistic Drawing
Weeks 4 & 5
For the last 2 weeks of the term, we were consolidating all the mark making techniques learnt over the last month into one finished drawing.
We considered the role of photography for the contemporary artist, and compared contemporary ways of drawing with the masters before us. Using the drafting technique of grids and measuring, and source imagery, we planned out our drawings, with particular attention to forming an interesting composition.
Methodically moving through the grid, we slowing built up the abstract shapes into a representational drawing.
I’ve had an absolute ball teaching my students, or should I say artists, this term. I hope I have been able to convey some of the techniques contemporary realist artists use to create interesting, yet true to life, drawings.
I'll be running another session on Wednesday evenings after the Easter holiday. Fancy giving it a go? More information
