Abstract through process / Paint & Print
Wednesday–Friday | 10 am–4 pm | 19–21 August
Service Description
Wed | Thur | Fri 19 – 21 August 10 am – 4 pm Tutor: Ginny Elston This three-day, process-led workshop explores how painting and printmaking can work together as tools for abstraction. Across the course, you’ll investigate how one process can inform the other — developing new visual languages through layering, repetition, and experimental mark-making. We’ll begin by gathering source material from the surrounding environment, drawing inspiration from textures, shapes, and forms within the local landscape. These observations will be translated into expressive acrylic paintings, which will then act as a starting point for further exploration using simple printmaking techniques. As the workshop unfolds, you’ll move between painting and print, allowing each process to disrupt, inform, and expand the other. There’s an emphasis on playful experimentation, with space to refine and develop ideas over the three days. Whether you’re creating bold abstract paintings, layered prints, or hybrid works that combine both approaches, you’ll come away with a deeper understanding of abstraction and new approaches to working across disciplines. All materials are provided.
