Thursdays 1 October – 26 November 2026 6:30–8:45 pm Eight weeks | No class on 15 October Course fee: £224 Tutor: Jill Martin Boualaxai This course treats the Heart of Newhaven building as a living archive—full of textures, corners, echoes and old stories. We use the building and fragments of Newhaven’s history as starting points for a project that develops through drawing, colour and mixed media. We begin in sketchbooks with quick interior studies, rubbings, tonal notes and structural sketches, gathering visual information from the space. These pages become your research: marks, textures and overlooked details to build from. As the course develops, we introduce old maps, photographs and archival fragments connected to the school and local area—not to copy, but to spark ideas around texture, atmosphere and composition. From there, we move into colour and mixed media, including collage, egg tempera, oils, colour monoprint and layered drawing. The course is process-led, with the aim of developing a small body of connected work rather than one final piece. You’ll explore: – Interiors, structure and architectural rhythm – Rubbings, surface impressions and texture notes – Drawing from maps, photographs and local fragments – Collage, pigment, egg tempera and small oil studies – Colour monoprint and simple transfers – Building a series from place-based research
Cancellation Policy
Courses and Multi-Day Workshops Your booking reserves a limited place. A £30 non-refundable booking deposit is included in the advertised price. If you cancel 14 days or more before the course or workshop begins, you will receive a refund of the amount paid, minus the £30 booking deposit. If you cancel less than 14 days before the start date, the full booking fee is normally non-refundable. If your place is subsequently filled by another customer, Look & Draw may offer a refund or credit, minus the £30 booking deposit. This is not guaranteed. No refund or credit can be offered after a course or workshop has begun, or for individual sessions that you are unable to attend. If Look & Draw cancels a course or workshop, you will receive a full refund or the option to transfer your booking. These terms do not affect your statutory rights.
